I remember that David Bill took some 3 day meetings in the UK (London?) shortly after John Hales's death, but was reported as saying the transcript of the meetings shouldn't be printed and also (then or slightly later) that the Lord might have in mind a younger man for the leadership.
I remember that clearly as well, thanks for the reminder. That was instrumental in many EB's thoughts that maybe DRB was not going to be the next MOG and he was doing the right thing in pointing to BDH.
During JSH's dying days, Warwick John (insider to all things Sydney) told someone that the closest person to JSH was his son BDH and next would be DRB. Some thought that is only normal that his son is the closest but did not think that meant BDH was the MOG-in-waiting. They took it that DRB was a clear candidate for the next MOG. DRB was at his pinnacle of power at the end of JSH's life. He did not try to grab the mantle from JSH to his credit. I found him a likeable guy having met him many times. His ministering was neutral enough and did not appear to be power hungry.
The reason why those UK meetings were not printed could have been a political decison from Sydney (BDH) I do not know. BDH obviously had some dirt on DRB to bring up and that could have been the reason. The later review found DRB wanting in BDH's eyes that is obvious enough. His flame went out and DRB is just any-old-brother now, no longer a threat to BDH. DRB would know more priestly matters than anyone from the JSH days who is still in fellowship with the EB. He has been effectively silenced.
The DRB-BDH drama immediately post-JSH was a very significant time in anybody's life who was in the EB at the time.
DRB returned from these meetings in UK and went to Sydney for a ministry meeting. The story was that the brethren sat there for an unprecedented long time for the first person to get up and it was not DRB. Guess who it was. Yes, your right, it was BDH. The subsequent printed ministry proved it. 2nd to get up was DRB. In the EB politics, that was monumental in deciding who was who.
The DRB supporters were pleased at how BDH kept him on the front lines for the first few weeks, they were hoping that there had been a mistake with BDH being the new MOG. However, only BDH's ministry was printed from that point forward. The love affair with DRB lasted a few months as DRB was not used as much as before. Then ultimately the crash came in the review when DRB disappeared from the radar screen and did not go to the Levitical 3DM in June. By then, all doubt was removed as to who the new MOG was.
