Let's get one thing straight, Steve Jobs didn't actually 'create' anything. There were MP3 players before the iPod, smartphones before the iPhone and the early Mackintosh computers were clever implementations of the principles developed atRank Xerox.
What he did do brilliantly well, was to reinvent the user interface, getting rid of complex ways of doing things that were appropriate when everyone using an electronic device was a techno-geek, but were no longer so when they reached into the mass market.
So that's his sin, if there is one, and it's exactly that approach which allows the EB to say on their website in answer to the question
'Why did the Brethren change their minds on fax machines?':
Where once fax machines were sophisticated, they are no longer.
Yes they are sophisticated, Bruce; believe me (you have to, because you don't actually have a clue), no area of electronics has gone backwards at any point in the last 50 years. It's just smaller, easier to use, and the complexity is hidden from you.
Or tell me - actually, I'm not sure I could bear to hear the answer to this - do you really believe your car is less sophisticated than a model of 60 years ago because it's done away with the handle coming out the front?
