It's been a long time since JTR ruled and subsequent Peeb "group-think" caused me to seek alternatives to my future. Before teenage years, I shut my mind off to ExB "stuff and nonsense." Of course there were repercussions for my willfulness. It has been hard to be separated from my biological family but I've managed to move on. Actually, thanks to the ExB's I have gained a good dose of personal strength.

What threw me for a loop, a real emotional doozy, 43 years after considered unworthy to eat with, was the recent "review" and a so-called, sort-of-apology. Sincerely given by people who were not responsible, continue to be entrapped and seem to have been charged with contacting me.

What a sick joke "The BDH Review" period has been. I read he's now cracking the whip in true "Elect Vessel" style. Meanwhile, people both in and out have been further abused by dangled carrots which brought dreams of yummy family "desserts".

The leadership of the Exclusive Brethren remains abusive. That it continues unabated without scrutiny by national and local government agencies totally amazes me. So, what is your local official doing? Does he or she have any awareness of the ExB System's arrogant disdain for the law, abusive tactics and denial of basic human rights? If not, why not?

Love and faith in human kind,

Just me again - wanting to share words of wisdom from one who truly understood all humanity's need for "unconditional love".

When Christ said: "I was hungry and you fed me," he didn't mean only the hunger for bread and for food; he also meant the hunger to be loved. Jesus himself experienced this loneliness. He came amongst his own and his own received him not, and it hurt him then and it has kept on hurting him. The same hunger, the same loneliness, the same having no one to be accepted by and to be loved and wanted by. Every human being in that case resembles Christ in his loneliness; and that is the hardest part, that's real hunger.

I am interested in securing proof that Dr. Bryan Wilson admitted under oath that he was paid by the Brethren to produce his 'sociological appraisal.' Apparently he admitted this in a recent New South Wales custody dispute case. (?) The court is the Australian Family Law Court. I have been unable to find any records on the Internet; it is possible it hasn't been published electronically.

Does anyone know the name of the case or could anyone advise me as to how I could access the records?

It is urgent that I obtain this information ASAP.

Thank you!

When the BBC documentary was on its way, there was a suggestion that the whole "Review" process in the Brethren was due to BDH's fear of scrutiny from the authorities over the Brethren practices. Well, the program is aired and there has been a bit of press over it, but now things are settling down, BDH is putting the screws on his congregation, especially the young people. There are no reasons being given for his edicts, and they are worded very cleverly so only those inside would be touched with fear by what they hear read out in the meeting via official letter, or via word of mouth, which I believe is the most powerful propaganda tool the Brethren use. The kids in there KNOW the consequences of disregarding the word of BDH, and that is a more powerful tool for him that explaining rationally how a digital camera differs from a standard one, or how a CD player is different in function to a tape player, or why it is ok to record tapes of every meeting worldwide (this is standard practice) but it is not ok to listen to a tape of, say, a pop group, or even an instrumental tape with no words.

Control........ what a tool.

The BBC programme successfully revealed the true extent of EB irresponsibility and callousness. It is the deliberate nature of their way of dealing with dissident members that is morally reprehensible. Theirs is a calculated unkindness, which is totally abhorrent to any reasonable person. Those of us who live as neighbours to these families have had our eyes opened.

Peter we are not born again we are a "new creation in Christ". Being born again implies the old regurgitated. And whatever is born must surely die. But the new creation in Christ can never die, for it is never born. The whole "born again" argument begins and ends with Nicodemus, an elder in Israel, who should of known about the passage 'a nation shall be born again in one day". Obviously Israel needed a birth from above, as was the case with Isaac in type. The New Covenant only knows the New creation, the old covenant has passed away. P.B.'s live in the old covenant. No wonder there Mount that is touched is all on fire.

hi to all, two requests if anyone can help, EB priests have offered to look into any matter that needs attention, no matter how serious, and I have read on this site re' JTjr death involving 'alcoholic dementia', but now I can not locate it, could someone please give me a lead ? Some serious issues were raised re' JTjr, JHS, JSH, all with witnessess etc, so it will now be an opertunity for them to be very honest in checking on the info.

2. I would like to contact any 'outs' in Holland, could anyone give me a contact ?

Someone on this site referred to EBs going hunting in NZ; you are right, as I run a hunting-safari type property, and I have had some through with their dog pack etc, the only problem was I did not charge them a fee, thought I might get shut-up again for being covetous !!! It is happening in several places that I know of. It is very wrong to be now doing things, hunting, fishing, boating and staying out overnight onboard, motels, without saying anything to those who were dealt with on these very matters. I know of young people who are now embittered towards their families for this. Many of are glad to see them enjoying some of these normal activities that used to be enjoyed, but to do them without putting things in their place first with their victims shows a very low level of honesty, if any. Thanks, and if any of you would like a hunt or fish, it might be workable too, discounted !!

Kind regards, Neville

Left in 1972. It was very hard breaking contact with the family. I went to live in Tasmania for 12 months, and then returned to Orange. All my family have since left excluding my brother Harold. Dad died in 1987, Mum is 83 and still going strong. I am married with 2 teenage girls. Worship at the Church of Christ in Orange, and walking with the Lord

“We object to … the teaching of evolution”.

According to my Chambers Dictionary, allow me to add the following:

noun lack of fairness and justice; gross injuctice; wickedness, sin; a crime;

That's just the nouns! Do you want me to provide the Adjectives and the adverbs?!

From the French: iniquite (wtih an acute on the e). From the Latin: iniquitas - meaning unequal. Now there's a thing.

Be not yoked with unbelievers(??) (I paraphrase)

To suppressed of June 8th.

I looked at the website you posted in the guestbook. It was encouraging to read such sincerity by leaders of a group obviously much larger than the EB's. If only they could be as open and honest about their failings, instead of their half hearted "we were wrong, but really we've always been right" approach.

I may add further to my comments on the New Birth, that the New Covenant knows the New Creation, but cannot enter in. The New Covenant was that promised to the seed of Abraham, to receive a new heart and spirit and a new Kingdom of God on earth. Galatians presents the great conflict between to gospels, that of Paul's [New Creation] and that of John, Peter and James of the circumcision or Covenant Gospels, [New birth] true in their place, but of no comparison with the glorious Gospel revealed to Paul, hidden from previous generations, based not on atonement but justification. This is the Kingdom of Heaven, that does not come with external observation. The two witnesses to this are Ephesians and Colossians.

I have not read this web-site recently, as I have now no contact with the EB's through relocation. I was saddened by some of the entries on this site, but also had a really giggle reading those made on the page towards the end of May, about God following the meetings around the world. Nice to read something a little more lighthearted. Was also interested to read John Smith's entry about the EB's having good conversations about the scriptures and havins some fun while he worked for them. They do present very well to outsiders as I found, but can also tell whoppers to suit themselves, and be very harsh to their own especially the women. A former employee was declared 'dead' by one who I believed to be the most Christian and kind of them, with a hard face and voice, leaving me in a shocked state. I too hope and pray that the beautiful young people will rise up and raise a banner to say they want things to change. Maybe we should pray for Bruce Hales to change. If God can arrest Saul of Tarsus on his way to murder more Christian, He can also change this so called 'Paul'. More power to us in Christ.

PLEASE GET SOME COMMON SENSE AND REALISE THAT CHRIST DIED FOR "WHOSOEVER".... BELIEVES!!!! NOT WHOSEVER IN THE BRETHREN!!!!!!!!

Re: To The Beloved Brethren

Although not a member of the EB, I had always inclined towards a respect for and tolerance of communities that try to live out the Christian gospel in an idiosyncratic way. This poorly drafted document, though, is foolish in the extreme. What does wearing faded jeans or T shirts have to do with the teaching of Jesus Christ, or even the apostle Paul? It makes a mockery of the intentions of JN Darby too. It’s about time someone shouted out loud that the Australian emperor is wearing no clothes!

"The Letter"

Regarding the latest, arrogant letter to the one-and-onlies. ( Refer to What's New: http://www.cloudnet.com/~dwyman/bdh4.html )

Sounds like the same old self-stifling dictates, newly-spouted by BDH, the Peeb's main man currently clothed as Jesus.

Clearly, offering wise advice for youngsters from all walks of life is valuable. But....

Coupled with dire threats for those who dare learn to think independently and make self-decisions? And, if I correctly understand ExB-speak, a threat to cut off new allowances to communicate with kith and kin long ago shut out..

Hmmmmmm.....

Seems like the same old insidious abuse.

With love to all,

Candace M.

Having spent some time near the EB`s,and holding much respect for you as ex EB`s, I`d really be interested to hear your views on something I struggle with as a christian, and that is....how are we REALLY supposed to live? eg: not to love the world or anything in it....to walk as Jesus walked both from 1 John:2. I don`t know if there`s anyone else who has such a complex time in doing such a simple chore as buying a shirt among other things like I do....what are our possesions to be??.....what jobs should we work at?? do we avoid the Government as far as possible, trusting only in the Good Sheperd?

I left 20 years ago as a teenager and suddenly, out of nowhere I was contacted by my mother and my brother who seemed to be genuinely interested in my three little girls who are aged between 5 and 1- they wanted to know their names and asked for their birthdates, none of my family have ever met my husband or children and I cannot deny that my mum meeting her granchildren was something I had never dreamed would happen. As my brother said that he felt they had been very unapproachable since I left and that I should feel I could call at any time, I eventually plucked up the courage to ring and ask if I could visit my mum with the three girls. My brother's wife said that she thought that would be fine but she would ask John (my brother) to call me to sort out when and where- this all happened a month ago and I have not heard anything since - I do not know who I am most angry with, Myself for falling for the whole thing again only to be ignored, or them, for messing my head up again after spending the past 20 years getting it sorted out!!

A comment after reading the content of the Sydney reading meeting on May 4, two days before BDH released his "To the beloved brethren" edict.

Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean'."

Mark 7:14 (NIV)

"suppressed by request" 11 June 2003

Dear Dick,

Your correspondent suggests in his or her 11 June contribution, ("suppressed by request") that s/he "wonders how much the EB's paid the BBC for this entry". I rise to defend that site. I have looked into, and read thoroughly www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/subdivisions/brethren/ and as a licence-fee payer to the BBC, I think that on the whole, this article is extremely well researched AND SHOWS NO BIAS.

That it the issue. THE BBC SHOWS NO BIAS IN THIS ARTICLE.

Read the site again, and you will observe that the BBC is taking a third party look at the Extremist Brethren (yes, I choose the word "Extremist" instead of Exclusive with extreme great care) and the BBC are not saying the EB's do these things The site makes it quite clear that "they (The EB's) are reported to be doing such things". [I Paraphrase]

My only quarrel with the BBC is that they include it as "Christianity" after the back slash "religions". This would be pedantic to pursue, because the BBC recognise that the EB's make the arrogant presumption that they are "Christians". They are NOT. Emphatically NOT.

Of course, this is only my opinion, and I would not like to impose it upon others! Ring a bell? That's just what the Eb's do - impose. I cannot, I am very liberal and a democrat - both lower case and upper case.

Really enjoyed beloved brother Christ, I mean Bruce's comments about worldly activities.

I now see the issues LOUD and CLEAR - exclusives must have their own entrances and tables - THAT is it! It will become a bit like South Africa was - white and coloured but this will be exclusives and others. Things really have changed in there havn't they ....!

Next time I see some of them where I think that they should not be, I'll have to double check and find their 'exclusive' entrance as THAT is the real issue. Image at the foot ball, 'peeb' entrances, 'peeb' bars, 'peeb' seating areas, 'peeb' toilets .... :-)

So Dick it will have to be the same for hospitals, schools, shopping centres, tollways, highways ...

I have a better idea - let's just relocate the entire bunch somewhere - there must be an island that would suit them somewhere? ... or a planet?

Uncommon abuse

Yes, Dick! Right on! So pleased to read your last paragraph in your What's New section: "Hey, Leaky! Here are a few more businesses you enter through a common entrance ...."

And, let's not forget grocery and butcher stores, trips to labor /delivery wards, pediatricians, general MD's, dentists, cardiac units etc. Or, bus rides, gas/petrol fill-ups, kindergarten sign-ups etc. etc.

Sadly, angrily, I recognize I will always feel insidious pain I cannot target. A severe ache. Something even people who know little or naught about ExBs do not wish to hear or want to try to understand. My attempts to explain the ExB System fall on glazed eyes and fuzzed ears. Such a peculiar type of uncommon abuse is more than "average" folk can comprehend.

To be a victim of, to be withdrawn from, or choose to leave the Peeb's view of "chosen" is gut-twisting pain that never ends. Victims of varying degrees are strewn to fend for themselves.

Members of the so-called Exclusive Brethren should deal fair and square with reality through the courage of self-mind-use and disdain abusive tactics.

Such is unlikely. How sad. How wrong. How wasteful.

As always, with love to those I love and/or pity.

Candace

My advice to Rachel Moss is not to get angry with anyone - not even yourself.

Allow your Mum (whom you clearly love after all these years of being ostracised) to see your children, but on the condition that your mother should be informed that no reference should be made to why you and your three children have not been visited before. Your mother should be told quite clearly that there should be no attempt to be critical of your role, whether it is the reason you left the EB's or your role as a loving mother, nor as to why Grandma has stayed away so long. It is all too easy for older folk within the system to make attempts to influence impressionable children.

After 20 years, Rachel, a month is not a long time. So relax, and if it doesn't happen... it doesn't happen.

My daughter sent me this message once: It was originally penned by one Frederick S Perle, and (excuse the pun) it is a pearl of wisdom:

"I do my thing and you do your thing, I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine. You are you, and I am I, and if by chance we find each other ... it's beautiful!"

So, if it does happen: It's beautiful. If it doesn't, your children won't notice or know the difference.

You seem to have borne the last 20 years with some grace, but don't get angry, there's enough anger in the world.

Regards,

(Uncle) George

You see what's happening here- BDH instead of producing any ministry of substance or biblical teaching [which would take considerable preparation] he resorts to a liteny of one liners and banal coments that anyone can see through -eg- the supposed evils of "common entrances" [one wonders why they haven't banned "linking on" with a "common sewer pipe"-wouldn't that be the ulitmate "mixture"?]

All this isn't surprising in the least- they have no substance or teaching to offer, and they must constantly be coming up with new rules, or the people will turn on them and their whole system will collapse.

But- you can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

One of the nicest people I know was 'EXCOMMUNICATED" over 15 years ago, because he 'SHARED A COMMON DRIVEWAY' to enter his place of business with 'AN UNBELIEVER'. These were business premises next door to each other, and there was no other way of entry. He was in an financial dilema and refused to comply with such ridiculous dogma. (The E'B'S gave him one month to comply.) Being absolutely impossible to do so.

THIS MAN'S LIFE WAS THEN COMPLETELY RUINED as his wife of 30 years along with his entire family who were married within the E'B'S refused to follow. He has never seen or heard of his 4 children and many grandchildren since. PLEASE DO NOT EVEN TRY TO ATTACH CHRISTIANITY TO THIS, LET ALONE THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS!!!!!!

I was amused to read the excerpts 22nd June. Going in through a common entrance, paying along with all these worldy people, I am amazed to find that standing in a queue is sin. I who was brought up by my devoutly EB parents to queue with curtesy and wait my turn, understood that gross evil was not standing in a queue, but the actual participation in all worldly activities, ie. skating, watching films, listening to music, eating in restaurants, partaking of food made with unholy hands and cavorting brazenly (their words not mine) in a very old fashioned swimming costume, nearly the equivalent of today's track suits; But entering a building along with other people, how on earth did they manage to dream that into a sin?

Their leader's communication skills and knowledge of the English language seems rather poor, but even allowing for that, how can swimming be a sin? It is a form of exercise actively encouraged by the medical profession to maintain fitness and mobility for all ages. Especially beneficial to people like me with arthritis and hip replacements, hydrotherapy is actually part of the rehab program after joint replacement surgery.

Someone suggested perhaps an island or planet! Good idea they could live in their fantasy world all by themselves and there is just such a place off the West Coast of Scotland, locally known as Anthrax Island. Perhaps the government would rent it to them for a nominal sum.

To Sheilamac of June 28

Your proposal to send the EBs to Annthrax Island is not without merit. I do have a problem however with it. It is the convention in our company to name all the servers after Scottish Islands - Skye, Rhum, Jura, Islay etc - and the latest server has just been christened Gruinard - which is the correct name for Anthrax Island. If something went wrong and the EBs ended up on the wrong Gruinard, I would hate to think of EBs crawling all over our network - worse than any outbreak of viruses we have had so far

Cheers

Iain

Banishment to Anthrax Island

Sadly, sheilamac is falling into the same trap as Peter French and both are falling into the same trap that Hitler did. No, no, and thrice NO. That is not the way to do it. The first idea of Hitler's was to transport all the Jews to the island of Madagascar, and not be allowed to leave.

The German nation (at the time), because of their economic situation, wanted to believe in anything that made them economically sound. They were inspired by what turned out to be a tyrant, fuelled by propaganda, nothing of the like which has been seen until very recently.

Anyone who was not like him should be "put away". (Or "shut up" in EB lingo). After all, many contributors to this site have experienced the feeling of being "non-existent" as far as their families are/were concerned.

No, Peter and Shiela, tolerance is a virtue. (Merchant of Venice by Billy Shakespeare). No matter how evil I think the EB's treatment of their own flesh and blood, no-one should condemn them to Anthrax Island. Please don't let's get carried away with extreme Ghenkis Kahn [not sure of spelling!] views.

But Peter... you don't seem to have a handle on the EB's. If you see someone who is somewhere they are not supposed to be - rejoice - they are feeling liberated! I do not go to football matches but if an EB went through the same turnstile as I, I would offer to shake hands with them(!) and congratulate them on their new-found freedom! Then, after the match, I would invite them to the pub for a drink, and "share the same table" too. And I might even buy the round!

Does anyone know if anything interesting came out of the EB party in Leicester recently?; and where was it held?.

Since my first entry here, when I foolishly did not ask for my email address to be withheld, I have received several kind offers per week from West Africa to lighten my bank account, complete with scriptural authority of course!. Just another form of 'Heavenly deception' I suppose.

As for the Everyman program, I was wrong, the BBC did a good job, although they drew no distinction between the Peebs and the Open Brethren. I really find it difficult to believe that the three 'priests' had been given their questions in advance, given their lack of constructive replies. Although humble, they displayed less intellect than a barcode. [How do they manage to buy food not labeled with barcodes?].

Anyway, where did Birmingham finish in the league?.

As to the message below, I used to know Elspeth very well but have been out for some years now. Are you related? Do you have email?

Trying to find news of Elspeth Erskine from Leeds, Endland, who married Philip Brown from Andover in either 1971 or 1972.

Ref Richard Green's posting on 11 June re the Brethren and Evolution, where he quotes the Bishop of Oxford's view on Evolution as 'the modern Christian view'. I should like to point out that this is far from universally true: there is a significant body of Christian scientists, with no connection to EBs, who also hold to a literal 6-day creation. See the attached site for some sample material:

Peter Clarke refers to the ultimate mix being shared sewers. Without wishing to stir the muck, my dear friend PW (to whom I have made reference in the past) who lives nearby had engineers working on his drains and sewers because they were indeed linked into or shared with others in the road. This information was given to me by my church warden who lives two doors away from Phillip and they do speak to each other. I witnessed the mess outside the house while the work was being undertaken. I refer to the pipework rather than the muck. Was Phillip trying to gain brownie points having been out of fellowship for a few months and doing his best to re-establish his credentials? His door is still open to me anytime I want to go and have a chat, but not a pint!
