Well, what do you know, a website for ex-PBs. Hi to everybody on the West Coast (of America) who might know me and/or my family. Daughter of Bob & Bea Robertson (San Francisco) granddaughter of Dave & Jean Robertson (Vancouver, deceased).

To those of you who are schoolteachers trying to teach PB children and give them a sense that there could be a life Outside -- PLEASE don't give up on those kids. You could be their only link to reality and their road to a future of life and freedom. A thousand thanks and canyons of gratitude to all of you.

Does anybody know what happened to my cousins Margaret, David and Garth Robertson of Vancouver? Would be ages about 45, 42 and 39 maybe.

I left the peebs in '80 and have not looked back.

I thought I'd leave my name on the guestbook in the event that someone there might have remembered or heard about me

We have listed on this site before, and thanks for the many replys. However the above email address gets used far more often these days as it is where we are spending most of our time. Anyone passing thru Murray Bridge may like to drop us a line as we have a ten berth houseboat that needs very little excuse for a cruise! We left of our own accord nearly 12 years ago (and no the sky didn't fall on our heads) with the whole family intact. Sandra, Jessica, Luke, Trudy. Des.now aged 25 to 16. GOD HAS BEEN TRULY GOOD TO US. Please drop a note if you wish! Regards Jim & Elspeth

Having heard of an Exclusive Brethren site I ran a search, and have been overjoyed to see many well known names. While time has clouded the faces, in the heart love retains the persons, both those that have been saved from this bondage, and the many that still remain, caught under the clutches of one man. (His name shall be called "JESUS", for He shall save His people from their sins).

I would like to make an urgent prayer request for Sharon Price, wife of Stewart Price [son of John &am;p Jessie Price of Vancouver BC] Sharon was taken to hospital last night suffering from a brain aneurysm, and at this point her condition and prognosis is unknown. The hospital is doing tests today, in order to determine if it is operable. Sharon is 40, and mother of three girls, aged 6, 10 and 12. Both Stewart and Sharon are sincere and dedicated believers, committed to the Lord's work. We are asking all to join us in prayer for this family, and that if it be the Lord's will to restore her to health and strength, she is so very badly needed, not only to her own family, but to all of us. Unfortionately, Stewart's parents are still in the EB's, and as such unavailable for support.

Hi to all our lost friends. It's been a long 20 yrs waiting to see this list of names again from the past---like stepping off onto another planet. Very sad to see so much hurt still ingrained, we only thought that we felt like that. Renewing friendships is a great motivation to pressing on, as long as we don't forget the lessons of the past I suppose. Unfortunatly, some that we are waiting to get our hands on, have not been thrown into the willderness yet, it is safer for them to stay where they are. Great to see the support available for those in special need.

Pip and I run farmstay, hunting (Esau) and fishing charters in the Marlborough sounds. Perhaps we should open up for all rehabiliatating like minded EX-PBs, (getting chased buy some wild, fuming boar in the thick scrub does tend to focus ones mind off the 'past' and onto the 'immediate future) discounts for all, but forfieted by any pressure preaching!

My two sisters, Rae Suckling (Dargiville) and Marion Clifford (Blenheim), Pip's father (Neville Janson) and sister Mary Goudie (Pal.North) are still in.

We have contacted a few from 'guestbook', which has been very rewarding, and really look forward to anyone sending an e/m,or phoneing 03-5798020.

Is the whereabouts of Malcolm and Phylis Beatson known to anyone? They were in Tasmania. Malcolm was the 'proud' leader of Marlborough (1970-75) aimed at NZ but blue-it, then ran away!

Our family values the christian principals that were unselfishly handed on to us, by some of those in this guestbook. Thanks Dick.

Kind regards to all,

Nev & Pip.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows or knew my Aunt who lives currently in ?Guildford, Surrey.

My Aunt's name is Margaret Gilmore (Nee Graham) and she married an Andrew T. Gilmore. She will be in her early 60's now. I believe she has five children (two I think are called Daniel and Julia)although we have never met them. She cut-off from our family in the late 1960's and only reappeared at my Grandmother's funeral last year and then duly disappeared again. Why she came after no contact for 30 years, I do not know.

I am curious to know how many cousins I have, how they are and if they are still in the EB's...

My Grandparents names were:

David Sims Graham (deceased)
Freda Wilson Graham (deceased)
Previously of Newcastle, U.K.

Any news would be appreciated.

I haven't signed in a while so I thought I'd check in again. Thank's to you Dick, I have regained contact with many people who knew me and my family from the EB's.

I am Jeff Logan formerly of Winnipeg, Canada. I left in 1992 at the age of 19. I now live in a little town outside the city with my wife and 2 step-sons. My life since leaving has gotten better and better every year and I have no regrets about leaving the ebs.

One thing I have noticed on this site is that the majority of people who have signed the guestbook or made contributions have left before 1990. Have fewer people left since then or are those who have left recently more shy?

To those who are a little apprehensive about letting us all know you have left and are doing O.K. don't worry. My experiences since originally signing the guestbook have been nothing short of amazing.

Love and best wishes to all,

Jeff Logan

I married JD who was previously a member of the exclusive Bretheren. I never did understand his problems, what I do know is that he tried to control my life as the Bretheren did to him. I understand that he had a very difficult life but I will never understand how he has now deserted his own children from our marriage. He has seen them for 2 days in one year and refused to pay any maintanace for 4 months, leaving us in severe financial difficulty.

When J recently remarried, he invited all his family except for his 2 young boys.

Could somebody explain to me why he is behaving like this? It breaks my heart that somebody who is so keen to keep in touch with everybody else is not bothered about his own children.

One of J's problems was that he has never got over being disowned by his family, why does he then ignore his own 2 young children? How do I explain to them why he doesn't want to see them?

I have been in the process of updating my will, and whilst having dinner with a group of friends, we were all being very morbid and discussing funerals. Out of 6 people I was the only one who said I was being buried, all the others favoured cremation. I got on my EB soap box and said cremation was wrong. But I could not substanciate why!

Can anyone tell me why the EB's thought cremation to be wrong?

Christian love to all.

Peter.

Miracles still happen- we are happy to report that Sharon Price has now been discharged from the hospital, and looks to be making a full recovery. Our special thanks to all who joined us in prayer- the aneurysm appears to have slowly disapeared and can not be seen on the brain scan.Full recovery will likely take several months, but there is no appearent brain damage, and we all give thanks for that.Perhaps we need something like this to get our priorities straight-in a moment of time everything can change, and all the things we think are so important in our lives become totally irrelevent. How easily it is to take life for granted, and we forget that God holds our very breath in his hands, and He can withdraw it in an instant. Hopefully the lessons learned from this event will not be forgotten quickly, and we thank God for His mercy.Once again, on behalf of the Price family, and all of us, thankyou again for your prayers.

Can anyone help me find out what reason was used to withdraw from me? I was notified by letter 2 years after I left of my own accord. The reason given to me was that I had 'missed the Lord's supper for too long'.

I am from Brisbane originally and left in 1986. My maiden name was Bell.

I am interested to find out because other xeb have told me that they were w/f for things they had not ever done. It seems to me that perhaps the priests are using any excuse just to save face because they were not successful in returning one of their own to the flock...Am I right?

Please email me, thanks!

It was very affecting for me to read the young woman's account of her experiences, I'm referring to the one whose father was asked to remove his name from his son's birth certificate. I have no problem with any article on this site if it is factual and as long as it doesnt turn into a "hate session". This web site is all new to me as I have only just purchased a computer but I did hear some mention of it some time back but all hearsay!! I would love to hear from any ex pbs from Tasmania as I was born there but left 18 years ago. Also I noticed on one of your lists a Chris Patton. I think he is related to me. Would you be kind enough to put me in contact with him please. regards Brian

I am 34 years old. I was brought up in the Glanton/Kelly (KLG) division until I left 10 years ago to go to the Open Brethren. Praise the Lord that I did:I have never had any time for the mystical teachings of F.E.Raven. I could see them creeping into the KLG silently at first but certainly indeed, more often than not by "brethren" from the Taylorite haemorrhage in the late 60's/early 70's. When I suggested to some "Glanton brethren" back in 1990 that I could see major problems ahead with respect to such teachings it didn't go down too well with them. I wonder what these same people are saying now! The problem has spread like a cancer in the KLG producing major splits and I am so glad to be away from them. I owe many thanks to my father, George Dunlop, who gave me very clear teaching on these matters especially including the importance of the Eternal Sonship of Christ! Whatever the "exclusives" might say against the "Opens" I can tell you all that never once have I heard such absurd teachings mentioned within the "Opens". Its good to be involved with these assemblies as they put a lot of effort into preaching the Gospel. Gospel campaigns especially in Northern Ireland can go on for weeks or even months on end with the Lord's blessing! For example, approximately 15 people were saved in 1999 as a result of one series of meetings held in Lisburn. This year 2000 has seen a lot more than this number saved at another series held in Coleraine, Co. Londonderry. PRAISE GOD!

This morning I rejoiced to lift up my voice with hundreds of others to sing "Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken, Zion, City of Our God" with superb music by Franz Joseph Haydn.

I recognized the music as being much used in Brethren circles years ago. In the pseudo-Gothic Anglican Cathedral it sounded superb!

It pleases me immensely to discover afresh, week by week, what a superb foundation in scripture was given to me by my Brethren childhood. We were raised to begin each day with scripture readings and prayer, and after supper too it was an evening habit.

Today I often enjoy the Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer, observed in our little Chapel of the Holy Family within the Cathedral.

I am now High Anglican - very High, the higher the better! The ceremonies each Sunday look Elizabethan and the language of the liturgy is reminiscent of Shakespeare and the King James Bible. Thank you, Church of England!

Thank you, Brethren, for your precious gifts to me.

It is always good to look over the posts in this site, yet it saddens me to see that decent people have been injured by the Peeb experience and some may remain somewhat embittered or bleeding or discouraged by what happened to them.

I have found Christian nurture and deep joy in the High Church of England. High Anglicanism or Anglican Catholicism.

Permit me to share with you a taste of the Book of Common Prayer. This is "Prayerfor Our Enemies". I love its deeply Christian spirit.

O God, the Father of all, whose Son didst command us to love our enemies,
Lead them and us from prejudice to truth,
Deliver them and us from hatred, cruelty and revenge,
And in Thy good time enable us all to stand reconciled before Thee
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

I wonder if some adaptation of that Anglican prayer could be said by all those who subscribe to Dick Wyman's website.

Can we set aside all judging of the Peebs but instead weep tears? Isn't the Peeb thing above all a *tragedy*? Hasn't the EB system betrayed Christ's Holy Church that He loves, His espoused and only Bride, while they are so deceived in their folly and pride and human weakness they imagine they are honoring Him?

Can we even so envelop the Brethren with our love and heartfelt prayers? Can we overcome evil with good? "Where there is injury, pardon... Where there is sadness, joy..." prays St. Francis of Assisi.

"Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace... Not so much to be loved as to love, for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we find pardon." (BCP US Ed.p. 833).

Will you pray with me for the Brethren, in whatever way is yours?

Here's my way.

I plan to light a candle for them next time I am in the Chapel of the Holy Family at the Anglican Cathedral, where we have an icon of Our Lady of Walsingham.

Please pray for all Brethren - those still in the cult and those who escaped and are in the lifelong process of recovery - and yes, it *is* lifelong, as any addiction is.

You can never be an "ex-peeb" - just a "recovering peeb".

It would be interesting if some writer would write a fictional account of John Nelson Darby living a generation later and coming to terms with the Oxford Movement. My inspiration for this thought is the treatment by Kingsley Amis of an England in which the Reformation failed. Amis has Martin Luther being elected Pope. Might Darby have become leader of the Oxford movement when John Henry Newman defected to the Roman Church?

I was interested to observe that some poster here had been pained by a spouse's attempt to control one's life.

As I enter old age I am reflecting on how I want to fill my remaining years. One option which appeals to me is to enter a contemplative life. This would means taking vows in one of the Orders of the Anglican communion.

Most Christian Orders use the Rule of St. Benedict. This means that you vow to live in poverty, chastity and obedience.

Poverty and chastity are no problem. I have given away my possessions and am now living on Social Security.

As to chastity, after fathering three wonderful children all now in adulthood I am content to be celibate.

The big problem for me is obedience. There is within me something that rebels against being told what to do.

But in an Order such as the Franciscans you don't argue about it; you do as you are told and go where you are sent by your Abbott.

I have enjoyed concversations with Anglican monks. First was a Franciscan from England who was ordered to America and had to suppress his distaste for that, surrendering his self-will. He has now effectively spent his life in the Franciscan monastery in San Francisco. The Franciscan Order unites Christians of the Anglican Catholic and Roman Catholic communions.

Then two weeks ago I met a Brother of the (Anglican) Order of the Holy Cross. Their monastery is in Santa Barbara. He deflated me a bit when he gently let me know that I was too old. In the Order of the Holy Cross the cut off age is fifty.

So I'll keep looking. If contemplative monasticism is in my future you may see me in robe and sandals reciting my Hail Marys each morning in our Chapel and spending the day in prayer and study.

Perhaps that will mean learning Latin and Greek so I can read Augustine, Benedict, Aquinas and the like, in their own writings.

And the New Testament is mostly in "koine," a version of Greek. My daughter learned "koine" while she was a student at Wheaton College, near Chicago, and I would enjoy discussing with her the meanings of passages in the NT.

Can you think of a better way for an old Peeb to fill out his final decades?

Hello,

The PB have been subject to the oldest form of warfare, ( Divide and Conquer).

If this really is the end times, the Truth about the Church,Israel and Rapture should be a special publication printed and written by all the PB.

Satan has hindered by ( OUR ) pride.Plain and simple. We became prideful of the truth we have, and what a fall and disgrace.

There are so many statements to the negative on this website, could it be, we NEEDED the corrections and circumstances in our lives.Couldn't we be all the more SMARTER because of the trials.

I pray the Lord Jesus give me first of all grace to live this life, And a heart of forgiveness to others, because I would want this from others, to be given to me.

I am the daughter of Tony and Elsie MacLachlan of the Winnipeg EBs. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has knowledge of the situation in the Winnipeg-Woodlands-Neche-St.Vincent area in the early to mid 1970s.

I am re-signing the guestbook in part to thank Dick for the website - I have met many, many special people since signing the guestbook and joining the feeb-forum... too many to name here. (Hi, Jeff!)

The other reason I'm signing again is that I've got a new email address: sseesahai@home.com.

I would like to thank the many ex brethren members who have contacted me re my coment on cremation 21st July. There have been many different points of view, and it is good to see that many of us now have the minds God gave us to think freely with. The outcome of all this in my mind is as follows,

To be at rest and asleep in Christ I will have to be buried.

Happiness to all

Peter.

I have scanned the South African Exclusives photo albumn into my computer. Only the Western Cape made an albumn in '98. Photos from other areas are from '94. (Albumns had been stopped by '98) If anyone is interested seeing photos of their family or friends I would be happy to send them to you. Please use the e-mail address shown here as I have discontinued the one shown on the list.

It is so easy to report injurious things about the Brethren. But can we look at some of the benign things?

I would like to draw the attention of readers of Dick Wyman's website to a beautiful feature of Brethren life I witnessed while young.

Each week, the Brethren collected money. Unlike their parent Church of England, Brethren made the collection an integral part of the Eucharist sequence. The collection box came right after the bread and wine.

The disposition of funds was decided at the monthly "Care Meeting" which was for "brothers" only in those days.

The Brethren allocated those funds with responsibility and with love. Small meetings in impoverished places worldwide received financial support. Isolated Brethren in remote locations such as Hilo, Hawaii, were remembered with gifts.

Hearing the names of these faraway places and sending them our money gave us a sense of truly participating in Christ's universal (that is, *catholic*) Church. When they wrote letters of thanks, these were read aloud to us, which helped to build our links of Christian love with them.

Most impressive of all, in my opinion, was the caring love and responsibility with which the local "poor in our midst" were given Brethren's money gifts to relieve their needs for rent, fuel and so on.

In the early days of Social Security, I understand James Taylor told the Brethren not to accept that government money. The Mormons even today maintain their own Welfare system out of Salt Lake City and tell their members not to accept secular government support.

The Brethren did some things RIGHT, folks. Honor those!

I last wrote in October 99 - we were at that stage intending moving to Australia - however we are still in NZ & probabaly will be here for a while yet.

It's interesting reading through the pages & realizing that our experience as ex-brethren is the same world wide - most of us have lost loved ones, some more hurt than others by their circunstances - my heart goes out especially to the ones who have lost their children! Nothing can be more painful than that. I am interested to see how many of us have either never lost the faith or been called back to the Lord since we left - so encouraging to see. There's nothing like realizing that the love of God is uncondiional & that He is a loving & forgiving God - something few of us ever experienced within the walls of the exclusive brethren church! There is definitely a strong bonding amongst all ex-brethren which is plain to see as you read these pages. I would love to hear from Marilyn Kennerly nee Allen (from New Plymouth) last I knew was living in Auckland, if anyone knows where Marilyn is please let me know!

I was 10 when my family left the Brethren in 1975. It had a devasting effect on my family. My parents still struggle to fellowship with non PB's even though it has been 25 years since they left. My Uncle is Lawrence Norton Marsh who is listed as one of those who could succeed John Hales. I am very grateful for this site as it has provided my parents with much needed information. Thank you.

Being aware that the EB's moniter this site I am a little hesitant to say too much for fear that it could jeopardise contact with my two children being brought up amongst the brethren. I grew up the eldest of 7 in a happy family in Dargaville, NZ, married in 1988 and last went to a 'meeting' in 1991. I consider myself lucky in that I am still able to have some limited contact with my parents (Des and Rae) to arrange access visits etc. One sister, Leonie, is also 'out'. Re-married and moved to Melbourne (Berwick) in '98.

I would like to encourage those hundreds who visit this site and never sign the guestbook to say gidday. It dosen't take a minute.

Thanks, Dick (or is that Mr Wyman!) for this splendid oppotunity to communicate....
