Freda & I went to the Niagara reunion and had a wonderful time - it was such a joy to talk to people who understood and had been thru similar experiences. I just found out about this site from Dennis
Hope. I left in the year of 95' and I did the usual things that a kid
does, drinking and partying, to try to forget the past. It has been a
rough road, but the last 3 years, I finally think I am on the road to
a brighter future. I still hold some of the basic values, as far as
christianity, and have gone to a few churches just to hear the Word.
If anybody wants to talk I would be willing to chat.
P.S. If anybody is interested, I have a book they are passing around
the church that has all the family pictures in it. The area it covers
is Maple Creek, Calgary, Edmonton, Kalispell, Regina, and Oxbow.

I was born in 1964, and was withdrawn from when I was 15. My parents
were shut up when I was 10 and I was forced to live with my brother's
family. After a couple of attempts to run away, and bouts of drinking
I was finally "kicked out" Over the past several years, I have had
very limited contact with ex-p.b.'s as I choose to simply not remember
my roots. However, thanks to my nephew I recently have become much
more interested in my roots. These sites have helped me a great deal
as they are making me realize that my past is real. I couldn't believe
the photo of Mr. Symington, unbelievable!!! I am married to a
non-brethren - 15 years, 3 children, 13, 11, and 3. My husband works
for Sk. Wheat Pool. Until recently I was administrator of the local
rural municipality. I am now self-employed. I would love to hear from

In 1973 we were thrown out of the Exclusives for being wicked and landed on the other side of the moon. It took us many years to land again and to start livinig. But the Lord was so faithful to us and loved us when nobody else did and showed us slowly a path to go. We started to go to a local baptist church where after a year or two one by one our children received the Lord into their hearts and seeing them receiving the Lord and showing their classmates the way to the Lord, Christopher and I became born again christians. It was like moving all your knowledge and light from your head down to your heart.. What a wonderful thing that the Lord never lets go of you. I wonder how many children of the brethren are like we were, full of light in their heads and nothing in the heart. Just self righteousness.
Well, many years have passed and we now live in Malmoe. Christopher runs a company owned by English James Burn International, selling bookbinding equipment, and I myself work for a United Nations' University here in Malmoe educating already captains, harbour mastors and first engineers on the seas, all from developing countries, in the UN standards on the seas in safety and environmental studies. We have 4 children and 4 grand children. Thank to the Lord.

We have found your web page to be very interesting!
The letters bring back many memories, some humorous,
some painful. I {Patrick} am Dean Mills' son and having
been close to the seat of power, saw close to hand all
aspects of the Brethern hiearchy.
My wife and I through God's grace broke free of the exclusives in November of 1974.
Although the "system" was inherently wrong we have come to be at peace with our upbringing and have found that the moral base we were exposed to has been to our blessing. The basic truths we have passed on to our children, who are both walking with the Lord.
We and our children have been able to maintain relationships with others who left. These relationships are far deeper than most as they were forged in fire.
My wife and I wish the Lords blessing on all who visit this site.

I came out many moons ago (1972) when my parents were kicked out, for what I don't know, or care. My heart goes out to those who wrote of such unhappy experiences in the Exclusive Brethren. However I would ask you to consider that because you left the Exclusive Brethren, does not mean that you have to give up on the principles of gathering, that were given to us by The Lord in the New Testament.
What you experienced was the results of what happens when a man establishes, what is in reality, a pseudo-denomination. There are local assemblies of brethren, gathered in the Lord's Name, who are willing to receive you. You can break bread with them, and all that they want to know is, "do you know the Lord as your Savior, and are you baptized." The fact that you once belonged to the Exclusive Brethren will not matter to them.
It is my prayer that some of you will decide to again experience the joy and the privlege of excercising the priesthood of the believers. You will never be able to experience this in a denominational church.

I have written here before.
This message is to try to make contact with anyone who might remember Grace Lambert, who was born Helen Grace Culverwell Marsh in 1888 and who died 1981. She married my uncle Charles, (C.T.Lambert) the hymn composer and after he retired from Coutts Bank, they lived in Paignton, Devon. They had two children, Roger and Barbara. The latter married a Dallow (of the dust control firm) but I have forgotten his first name.
All Grace and Charles' descendants are trapped inside the brethren cult. My reason for being interested in Grace Marsh Lambert now is an astonishing coincidence. I am currently writing a training manual for UNICEF. The man who is doing my layout and design is an enthusiastic collector and chronicler of children's books illustrators of the early part of this century. Grace Lambert, often known as Grace Marsh Lambert, was one of the best and is even now, quite well known.
I casually mentioned her name and his eyes nearly popped out of his head. He had tried, without success, to gain the assistance of her family but been told the usual Taylorite rubbish about Grace having renounced all that. Anyone who had ever known this brilliant, kindly, broad-minded and loving person would know that she would never have done any such thing - unless as an elderly person she was, like so many others, confused and poisoned by Taylorite cult propaganda.
Anyway, is there anyone who remembers Grace and who can tell my friend anything about her? He wants to write a book about her. I believe she deserves this kind of treatment and I would like to help. I will pass on names and details to him if anyone will write to me.

We have just had news that my mother's brother Joe Robson passed away on
Nov. 16th. David Legg who is still in the Taylor group phoned on Nov. 20th
to let us know he had died of cancer. Naturally they had already had the funeral
but the did let us know. Some of you might remember him. His 1st wife's name
was Bernice and she passed away in 1986. David was very polite but his excuse
for not letting us know sooner was that I was not right in my position over Jim
Taylor's being a servant of the Lord.

When I first visited your site and read the guest book - over a month ago - I was overwhelmed with grief at the sufferings of so many - and did not sign in.
Some of the persons are known and I am familiar with many names but - whether known or not - they are my brethren and I feel for them deeply. But more that this, I am sure that the Lord Jesus feels it all supremely, as he said to Saul, "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest".
I trust that the opportunity you have provided for contacts will help many in the continuing healing process.
Betty and I were often in Cleveland in the 1960's but I think you had left before our first visit. We were quite familiar with your family and have stayed with them and our names would be in the family guest book.
We withdrew in early 1971 - none too soon. After some fruitless time in the wilderness we re-committed ourselves to the Lord and to His interests. With a few others - mostly of other backgrounds - we meet for the Lord's Supper "until He come".

We got out in 1970 along with all our immediate family except Patsy's eldest brother, Russell. Does anybody out there have any news of Russell & Averil Ghinn and family? We know that they probably still live in Orpington and their two daughters are married and have several children. Any news would be of great interest especially to Patsy's mother, Hilda Ghinn, who is still going strong at 88!

I have avoided contact with ex-Brethren simply because before the Net I had no idea who they were and because the experience of cult life was so devastating for me that I needed to make my way on my own.

experiences and observations suggest that the 'exclusive brethren - taylor, symington,
hales' have become a cult, abandoning the christian gospel, the 'faith once delivered
to the saints' and have descended, in about 150 years, into the heresies of papacy,
some of which took the 'church' of Rome 1,900 years.
