Unfortunately both have children and grandchildren in the PB's, but pray that they will find out how to get free of them. Tom's sister, Suzanne Roach died 16th May, 1998 after a long battle with cancer. Tom has been healed of prostrate cancer, for which we thank the Lord. Barbara's father, Harold Joyce was 89 on 26 Sept 1997, still alive and in PB's. Love to hear from happy Christians.

Guest: Iain Gibb
Guest E-mail: Iain_Gibb@campbell-lee.co.uk
Date & Comments: 25 May, 1998 Would like to say Hi to everyone reading this page, but specially to those who have been through same disillusioning and soul searching experiences. During 60s was a firm believer in JT Jr, so much so that at Aberdeen was one of few in Scotland who never doubted him. Disillusion began in 1973 and I left in 1975. Through God's mercy my wife, Daphne (nee Devenish) was fully with me. Daphne died aged 36 from cancer in 1989 (her parents still with the Jims were not there to support her, but her faith never wavered). Married again 5 years ago to Edna (who still finds EB stories beyond belief). Together we worship at Olivet Evangelical Church in Falkirk.

Guest E-mail: teddruck@aol.com
City, Country: Esther and I were put out of the Jim's in September 1977. Our daughter Sharon was already married and sadly we allowed Bruce, James and Gwyneth to leave home to remain in the system and Garth and John stayed at home with us, praise the Lord. We would be thrilled to hear from anyone. Looking forward to your correspondence.

Guest: David Shephard
Guest E-mail: davidshep@tesco.net
Date & Comments: Like many others, I grew up in the Exclusives and have sadly left a brother, his family and many other relatives in that system. After 1970 we were in the "Renton" Fellowship until 5 years back. We left realising that the "Rentons" are the nearest to the Exclusives, however they lack firm leadership, a sense of direction and are riddled with hypocrisy and materialism.

Guest: John Davison
Guest E-mail: rdavison@golden.net

Date & Comments: June 2/98

Guest: Christer Nilsson
Guest E-mail: c.nil@telia.com
Date & Comments: I'm the author of the book Sekternas Sekt about the excusives. (Proprius 1986) ISBN 91 7118 566-6. The book is written in swedish and was quite noticed. Bryan Wilson, Oxford University tried to question it, but what I wrote was of course unimpeachable. I am born in 1940 and was raised in a PB-family in Helsingborg, Sweden. I was never in fellowship and abandoned the brethren in 1961 when JT preached his wicked doctrines. When my three years older sister died in 1985, I got to know it three weeks after her funeral (!). Then I decided to find out what happened amongst the "brethren" since I left.

Date & Comments: We were with the P.B's for 20 years, left about 1955 or so when we felt the saystem had deteriorated that we as a family left after over 20 years with the meeting. Raised our four sons in the meeting. Loved it before it became a dictatorship. Would love to hear from any former members who stayed with us or whose fellowship we enjoyed. Sorry to say my husband John Alexander died 19 years ago, our son John is founder and president of the Can. Federation for Independent Business Ian lives in California, has a travelling company, Robert owns two McDonald stores in Huntsville and parry Sound, and Peter the youngest owns the tailoring business and is a Computer scientist. I have a wonderful life, a loving husband, 3 beautiful daughters and 1 darling granddaughter 1 yr old. I am very thankful for the loving caring and christian upbringing I had. If anyone looking here remembers me get in touch. My brother Graeme married a Melbourne girl Glenda Williams. He has since left but Glenda and 4 of his children stayed in. Guest: Dyana (Symington) Beaton
Guest E-mail: bbeaton@gaffaneys.com
Date & Comments: June 11, 1998 -- I grew up in the tiny town of Neche, North Dakota where the Plymouth Brethren are a flourising clan as that is where Jim Symington was from. Neche was the "hub" for many years when Jim Symington was alive and preaching in Neche. I remember hundreds of people being bussed into town from all over the world to hear Jim. They would fly into Winnipeg and then take busses into Neche. The population of the town would triple on "meeting" nights. My family was the only Symington family not in the "clan". There still are many many Symington's in Neche.

Date & Comments: June 12, 1998 I am the daughter of Anthony (Tony) MacLachlan and Elsie Nora Phillips. He is from Hove, Sussex England, raised by his foster parents the Leatherdales and my mother was born in Ontario and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. They are currently with the "Jims" in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and I would like to hear from anyone who might be a relative or who might have any information about my parents.
I have one sister, and am married to Richard Seesahai and we have a son Anthony, he is three years old.

Guest: Peter Legge
Guest E-mail: peter.legge@btinternet.com
City, Country: Chester, England
Date & Comments: Left the Exclusives in 1961. Is there anyone there who was an NCC (Non combatant coir in the Army) who remembers my family all those years ago? The organisation was a very spiritual one but went astray with its leadership. We'll be togather again one day when the Lord Jesus returns.

Date & Comments: I am the grandson of A W Roach, who wrote several of the hymns in the 1973 edition of the P.B. hymn book. He also wrote a book of poetry (spiritual) and I am interested in getting a copy of this. Can anyone help me? I am also trying to contact my parents' relatives in England - the Coopers and the Roaches. Correspondence could be sent to the above Email address or the PO Box 96, Carlingford NSW 2188.

Guest: Malcolm G. Peters
Guest E-mail: malgut@aol.com
Date & Comments: Hello everyone! Shown this site by a nephew who had just left the Brethren. Raised in Melbourne, Australia. Three sisters (one now deceased) and their families still involved with the Brethren in Australia and England. Some of their children have since left. There were three choices for me just after I had turned 16 years old in 1977 (Parents were shut-up that time)- "Confess" and return to the fellowship; be "stubborn" and stay in the home- parents may have to "divorce" so mother could return to the fellowship; or leave home with a $50 check. I chose to follow my guts with the $50 check. Parents (now deceased) returned to the fellowship shortly afterwards. It's been a long and tough way out, but I'm very grateful for all the wonderful experiences I have been through and that is also ahead of me and my American wife. Met her after graduating with a Master of Arts degree from Gallaudet University in Washington DC in 1993. Plan to check this site frequently. Good work, Dick!

Guest: Chris Yerby
Guest E-mail: danyerby@aol.com
Date & Comments: 06-21-98. I had no idea that the exclusive brethren were like this. It sounds like they really are a cult and have damaged and hurt a great many people. I attend an open brethren assembly here where I live...South Plains Bible Chapel, and they are some of the most Godly people I know. Nothing cultic about these people at all. The open brethren are just solid orthodox evangelical Christians that fellowship with a great many others of different denominations that agree with the doctrines of evangelical Chrisitianity. I attended Emmaus Bible College and have had many contacts with other open brethren assemblies and find them to be very Biblical and following the principles of New Testament Christianity. I don't understand why all you folks that have been hurt in the exclusive assemblies don't join the open assemblies where you will be nurtured and loved the way it ought to be.

Date & Comments: It's easy to see the horrible defects and cruelties of the Brethren's ways, but after more than thirty years of freedom from their tyranny, I am inclined to be magnanimous. Brethren are typically capable of great loyalty to each other, like the Mormons, and their "simple" way of life, without television, computers etc., is IMHO a *good* thing, like Quakers. My children have grown up into adulthood very well without television. As to doctrine, I think the Brethren are quite *correct* in rejecting the "Eternal Sonship" of Christ; they were bitterly criticized over this in 1928 and I think the Brethren did well to stand their ground---in defense of what Christian historians call "the heresy of Marcellus", i.e. "Sonship" not eternal but acquired. Let's give Brethren credit where credit is due, even as we stand back in sorrow from the mire into which the Brethren have sunk.

Date & Comments: July 1998 - found the site recently.
We grew up in the EB's and left after much soul-searching about 22 years back. It took years to adjust to other Christians! Thankfully we are happily in fellowship with a Baptist church. We have four children: Russell, David, Deborah and Melody. The first three are married.
If anyone remembers us, please get in touch. We would be glad to assist anyone in the process of healing from the wounds of the Brethren.
