An Australian Guest reports:

The Australian Federal Government yesterday announced sweeping changes to the Family Law Act. These include: equal shared parental rights between parents, the recognising of the rights of grandparents, 65 new centres for advice across Australia, dispute resolution and early intervention services.

The new centres will be helped run by "Church and Community Groups".

Those of us who have been actively campaigning for these changes are obviously delighted.

So Mr BDH, not only do the Government listen but they are putting in place changes to stop your past use of the secrecy of the Family Court system. For too long now, the EB have hidden behind the closed doors of their own little world and the closed walls of the Australian Family Court. The way they have financially bled the bank accounts of many through costly legal battles and legal tactics just to see our own children, is about to come to an end.

In memory of Andrew H____, who took his own life following the cruel separation of his children from him.

The 'Mr Bruce in Christchurch' event seems confirmed for w/e August 14th / 15th. We unfortunately cannot confirm as yet the lists of persons staying in different Christchurch households. If we receive that information, we will of course display it here. Any changes to date or relevant information will be displayed as received.

Heather Dutra reports:

As a close friend, I have been asked to make this announcement of an ex-EB who was killed in a road accident this past weekend in Oregon, USA.

My dear friend Elaine Whitney was tragically taken in a head on collision this past weekend in Oregon. The gravesite service will be at the River View Cemetery in Portland on Friday the 30th, at 2.30 PM. There will be a memorial service at the City Bible Church Chapel on NE Fremont in Portland at 2 pm on Sunday. She suffered many hardships in her life, but never lost her sense of humour, faith and compassion for others.

July 25th, 2004 (EB News)

We are reliably informed that Mr Bruce will be conducting a "big meeting" in Christchurch, New Zealand within the next two to three weeks. We will bring you further details as they are forthcoming.

July 24th, 2004 (EB News - Public Commentary)

Those of us in the southern hemisphere have probably heard of the name Michael Laws. Michael is a radio personality and politician / spokesman who currently can be heard on Radio Pacifics' highly popular 'The Michael Laws Show'.

Peebs.Net were alerted a few days ago to a row brewing between Mr Laws and the EB due to certain comments Michael made comparing the EB to a group called 'The Mongrel Mob'. To try to ascertain exactly what was said, we searched for appropriate transcipts, but were mostly unsuccessful. However, we did discover a good definition of the term 'Mongrel Mob':
According to recent press releases, the Mongrel Mob is causing concern up and down the corridors of power in NZ. Thus, it was an intentionally topical point that Michael Laws was making when he recently confirmed his recent broadcast comment in an email to us.

We wrote to Michael Laws on Friday, July 23, 2004:

To: Michael Laws michael_wanganui@hotmail.com
From: Peebs.Net info@peebs.net
Subject: M4M Online Enquiry

(Extract)... An anonymous tip from a Peebs.Net contributor mentioned that you recently spoke of the Exclusive Brethren, calling them "part of the Mongrel Mob of NZ..." during your radio show. We have searched the web unsuccessfully for any transcripts of your show. We would be delighted to provide our readers with your words, if you are agreeable...

Michael replied Fri 7/23/2004 8:31 PM:

To: Peebs.Net info@peebs.net
From: Michael Laws michael_wanganui@hotmail.com
Subject: M4M Online Enquiry

I think my precise words were -

"the religious equivalent of the Mongrel Mob".

You are most welcome to use that quote.
Cheers
Michael Laws

Warren McAlpin reports:

Friday 16th, 2004

Hedley Proctor, lawyer and humanitarian, passed away today at the age of 86. Hedley resided in Sydney, Nelson's Bay and near Newcastle, NSW.

Mr Proctor was despised by the EB leadership in Sydney, but loved by his wife June, family and those who knew him. I am proud to say I knew him as a friend, fellow believer, lawyer, family man, fellow-sailor and just a really good bloke.

Through 25-30 court cases instigated by the Exclusive Brethren, this man stood shoulder to shoulder with me, believing in the God-given relationship of the family. When the taunts and the threats and the legal actions came thick and fast, Mr Proctor would shake his head and say: "If only they could see that we love them and they shouldn't be breaking up families!".

The funeral is on Wednesday the 21st July. Burial will be 10:00 AM at the Belmont Cemetery, Newcastle followed by a noon service at the Christian Mission, Old Royal Theatre, Hunter St, Newcastle, NSW.

Hedley Proctor will be sadly missed, but he is now resting with his Lord and Saviour.

Our brave roving reporter managed to snatch some daring shots of Perth Meeting Room a few hours ago.

July 12th, 2004 (EB News)

A subtle indication as to EB priorities is contained within the following Sunday Telegraph (British) article. For once, the reference to 'Plymouth Brethren' is obviously too broad.

July 8th, 2004 (Site News)

Our July Address is currently underway in The Auditorium. We have some exceptionally talented communicators among us and the July Speaker is no exception. The author of 'Sweetness and Light' is waiting to field your questions and comments.

If you have not yet registered with the Forum, now is the perfect opportunity. It is a very simple process: supply a Name, an Email Address and remember to reply to the 'Security Check' that will be issued by the Peebs.Net software shortly following your registration.

First instincts are often proved right as the following informative item from New Zealands' One News channel revealed earlier today. Be sure to watch the almost 2 minutes of news-feed video.

As more news breaks, we will post it on the News Page.

July 1st, 2004 (EB News)

We continue to follow with interest an apparant campaign in NZ. We remain unsure as to whether the reported company is affiliated in any way with the EB, but the reporting staff obviously smell something interesting. We'll bring you more news as it breaks.

June 30, 2004 (EB News)

The following link from the New Zealand press today seems a little bland at first sight, but when you listen to the audio track (entitled 'Union wants access'), it all becomes rather clear!

Possible keywords would include: Sikh, English, Labor Unions, Lunchtimes and of course, Exclusive Brethren. We'll try to uncover a little more background if at all possible. Were we the only ones to feel that the interviewing technique was rather harsh?

Dr. Nick Smith won a significant battle today in his stand against abuse of the Family Court in New Zealand. You may recall that Nick was partly responsible for helping reuniting a family ripped apart by EB relatives refusing to allow the children of a disciplined ex-EB couple to join their parents. This case is helping to open the court to greater public scrutiny in New Zealand.

Two reminders:
  • The Auditorium - The doors will be closed at midnight (GMT) June 30th to enable preparation for the July Address. More information will be posted nearer the time.
  • Names Registry - There are many more successfuly registered Registry users than have actually made an entry. For fairly obvious reasons, the Names Registry is not designed to encourage 'lurkers', so we look forward to all registered users actually making an entry! If any technical problems remain, let us know via Feedback.

June 24, 2004 (Site News + Support Tips)

There are several new items in The Library, one or two of which may start some interesting discussions. The Names Registry is growing, but several are having problems logging in. One or two still have problems logging into the Forum and both issues are related. The two aspects to check are 'cookies' and 'javascript'. If you are not using a third-party security handler like Norton Internet Security, you may need to adjust certain properties manually:

For Cookies: (a way to store information temporarily - like 'yes, you can log in')
- go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Internet Properties/Privacy;
- select Edit under Web Sites area;
- enter www.peebs.net and press Allow;
- click OK

For Javascript: (a language that is used on certain pages)
- go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Internet Properties/Security;
- If already set to High or Medium, then follow instructions ... if not, Javascript should already be enabled.
- select Custom Level button;
- scroll down until the side-heading says 'Scripting';
- ensure that all Scripting components are set to 'Enable' and not 'Disable';
- click OK and then APPLY

If you still have problems, let us know via Feedback.

June 23, 2004 (EB News)

Confirming reported news has such a warm comforting feeling. Shame that the topic tends to be of less cuddly connotations to most of us ... nevertheless, we seem to have some confirmed recent travel arrangements to report:

It is confirmed that the 2004 Levitical Meeting took place in Leicester, England with Bruce Hales. The location is not unexpected as the Levitical Meetings have been held in this English city for the last few years. There were other European Meetings, one held in Sweden and possibly in other areas, including we believe, Dublin, Eire as reported yesterday ... although this is not yet fully confirmed. The Meetings in Sweden were not led by Bruce Hales. There was also a Fellowship Meeting in Leeds, England which was led by Bruce Hales.

Following Leeds, Bruce Hales then flew from England to Neche, North Dakota for a Fellowship Meeting that was held yesterday, June 22nd, 2004. He is scheduled to return to Australia June 24th.

June 22, 2004 (EB News)

So, was anyone near Leicester, England last weekend? We understand from several sources that it was the location of the annual 'Universal Meeting'. Even if the ex-EB paparazzi didn't make it this year, any related news would be welcome.

Update:

We have been informed that the 'Main Meeting' took place between June 11th and June 14th in Dublin, Ireland. It is confirmed that Bruce Hales was in attendance.

June 21, 2004 (Site News)

We have completed our main testing of the new Names Registry. There are a few strange 'features', but nothing vital is going wrong. The worst problem is that you cannot select a Country while adding a new Name, but you can when editing your entry later! That one has us scratching our heads, but we'll fix it.

As you know, we wanted to move away from the old format which required so much work by the site hosts. This way, we do a lot of work up front and from now on, you do all the typing! (That's the plan anyway).

Please go ahead, click on Names and use the Registry. We have several improvements planned for later on, but for the time being, we are pleased the Names List is back with us, even if it looks rather different. All information is stored in a database and is quite secure. Registration is required and this will immediately prevent virtually all known Spammers.

The Names Registry will accept photos, but you must limit the size to 200 x 200 pixels. If this is meaningless to you, send us a photo and we will make it fit.

Please give us feedback! We need to know what works for you, if it doesn't or if you simply don't care! Remember, unless the next Peebs.Net hosts have our range of skills, you won't be getting anything else for a while, so now is your opportunity.

We hope to launch the 'Jobs Database' next and will give you further details nearer the time.

June 21, 2004 (EB News - Public Commentary)

For those of you who have asked for further background information on Dr. Nick Smith, we have added a donated compilation of two 1992 parliamentary speeches to the Library (General Interest).

June 19 2004 (Site News)

We have quite a few people who have registered with Peebs.Net Forum but have decided not to respond to our Security Checks. This is possible due to a variety of reasons, not all nefarious or sinister (although some most certainly are suspicious!).

As the numbers rise above 150, we have decided to have a 'Weekend of Deletion'. Anyone who has decided not to give us the information we need to allow full membership will be deleted from the list of registered members over the course of this weekend.

It is possible you forgot to reply to our 'Security Check' email or more likely, that your spam detection software decided (probably rightly) that we are highly undesirable. In which case, unless you tell your Detection Software that we're OK, you'll never make it past 'Chit-Chat' or 'The Chapel'. This is a fate that we wouldn't want to wish on anyone!

How do you know if you have Full Membership or not? If you can click on the 'Welcome!' Forum at the top of the Forum list and after entering your Username and Password, can see the Topic 'Great to be online again', then you have full membership.

If you registered with Peebs.Net within the first week we were live (early to mid-May) it is possible that you did not receive a Security Check email. This was implemented following the first attempted Forum abuse. Those who applied more recently would have had to reply to our email.

So, if you currently do not enjoy full access and wish to gain full access to the Forum, you will need to contact us by email. Use the Feedback page.

Should we delete anyone in error, we apologize in advance and suggest you re-apply immediately.

June 4, 2004 (EB News - CONFIRMED)

June 3, 2004 (Site News)

Some interesting additions have been made to The Library. We now have a good collection of past news stories that goes back as far as 1988 (thanks for the contributions) in the News Archive. Several people have sent in web links and we have therefore also created a Useful Links section there as well.

Due to the evolving structure of The Library, we have decided to abandon The Archive. Keep the Feedback coming and those contributions!

Note to those that use Spam Filters:

Most Spam Filters have a 'Whitelist' of acceptable email addresses. May we suggest that if you decide to register with Peebs.Net, you ensure that the Peebs.Net domain is on that list? You see, if you do not respond to one of our email security checks, your Forum application will be automatically denied. You can always Blacklist us later!

June 2, 2004 (Site News)

The Auditorium is Open! - The June 2004 Speaker has spoken ...

So there is truth in the popular Burns misquote: "the best-laid plans of mice and men often go astray".
We planned the launch of the Auditorium with the care of a major marketing-driven event. We contacted possible 'Speakers' and the Security-B said that the Forum was "locked up tight" (that's it, someone's going back on vacation). We planned to tempt you all with snippets and quotes. We hoped to build a giant swell of expectation. We schemed to massage the topics in a perfect series of subjects and personalities.

Instead, the sudden appearance of our June Speaker was a suprise to us here too! The name is already well-known to Peebs.Net visitors and there is no doubt of his ability to communicate. In fact we really enjoyed reading the live document - even if there was some trepidation when we realized what had happened!

The plan is that there will be a new Speaker during the first week of every month. Ensuing discussions and debates are for all registered Peebs.Net members. Please let us know through Feedback if there is anything we can do to make this concept (or the site) more enjoyable or useful to you. Work is continuing on a brand-new Names Registry and we hope to make some announcements later this week.

Now head to the Auditorium and give our first Peebs.Net Speaker a suitable round of applause!

May 26, 2004 (Site News)

In case you haven't noticed, the main site page is updated and the Library is now open!

We have room for many more submissions - documents, thoughts, poetry, prose, photographs, video, audio and other site links. Send them in via the email link on the Feedback page. We will do all necessary conversion and then check back with you for final approval before posting. Many thanks to those who have already submitted material. We're working on it!

Oh and we're delighted to announce the Forum Membership is now into 3 figures. Many of the new members were lurkers on Dick & Daniel's sites but the Forum has allowed them to safely participate for the first time. For those who ask why we do this - we do it because of that and just read one page of the Guestbook, any page ...

May 24, 2004 (Site News)

There is an important message to registered members of Peebs.Net under Peebs.Net Announcements Forum. (You will need to be logged in in order to view the Announcement Forum.)

We also wish to remind all members that the Forum is a 'safe zone'. Anything you read or write in there should not ever be copied and distributed outside the 'walls' of the Forum unless appropriate permission from the author is both sought and granted. This is a standard requirement of membership-based Forums. If you cannot abide by this entirely normal request, please cancel your Peebs.Net membership immediately.

May 21, 2004 (Site News)

Apologies from all of us to all of you. There were some deep and detailed conversations about how to handle the security aspects of Peebs.Net. We are not all of 'one mind', but that is, we decided, just like ... You. So we're going to drop the 'Security Stuff' for a while and let one of the B's go on a much-needed vacation.

Meanwhile, the doors are flung wide open, there are windows in the walls and we have a Names area to get finished!

In response to an email query today, the basic 'rules' (Blech!) and emphasis are unchanged: we need to continue the transition from a Guestbook-Only Model to a Guestbook and Forum.
  • No profanity (Guestbook or Forum);
  • No personal 'digs' or incitements in Guestbook (use Forum, email or other means);
  • No need to sign Guestbook every time you visit!
  • If you intend to be totally anonymous in the Forum (ie hotmail/yahoo email, no Location and cryptic Identity) then please use Feedback first to say 'Hi!' - otherwise you're likely to get deleted on a daily basis along with any suspect Nigerian Scam Artists!
If you have a comment for us, either roses or thorns, please use the Forum area or email - not the Guestbook.

That's about it. Enjoy the site and let us know any ways in which the facilities could be improved (a short list please!)

May 18, 2004 (EB News - CONFIRMED)

Here are a couple of PDFs from USA 'bible-belt' news - Texas / Kansas. The 'Left Behind' series has been a huge literary success in USA with over 40 million copies sold and it's interesting to note that the theological impact of JND is greater than we perhaps realise. So what exactly is it about towns called Plymouth? Someone's at it again ... this time in Massachusetts:
